Binnenklimaattechniek Foundation launches online register CO₂ meters

31 March 2023

The past year has seen ventilation improvements in many school buildings. More than 1,400 schools have now enlisted the help of the ventilation assistance team of Ruimte-OK and CO₂ meters have been installed in thousands of classrooms. In order to measure whether ventilation is in order, the Minister for Primary and Secondary Education announced last autumn that a CO₂ meter would be compulsory in every classroom.

There are hundreds of CO₂ meters available. But as a school board, how do you choose a particular type of CO₂ meter? It is a question the ventilation help team receives with some regularity. The answer to that question has recently become easier to answer. In addition to the prepared guide there is now also a national register online that provides a good overview of available CO₂ meters. By consulting the register when choosing a particular type of CO₂ meter, a school board can be almost certain that the chosen meter meets all legal requirements. The list is not yet complete and is constantly being updated.

What added value does the register offer?

To be included in the national register, suppliers and their products must meet a number of requirements. These stem largely from the Buildings Decree. Upon registration, the supplier must declare compliance with said requirements. The suppliers in the register distinguish themselves based on, among other things: technical requirements of the CO₂ meter, requirements for the dashboard and cloud environment, as well as the product information available. For the latter, consider a manual and technical specifications.

Given the increasing importance of monitoring, in addition to the technical requirements, a monitoring function is also assumed where data is retained for at least one year. This is to ensure that information on carbon dioxide concentration is available and can be analysed over a longer period of time. This is important to get a better picture of indoor climate quality.

Chairman Binnenklimaattechniek Foundation, Remi Hompe: "In the quest for a healthier indoor climate, it is difficult to decide where to start next. With the National Register CO₂-meters, we offer school boards and municipalities, as well as other bodies, a helping hand."
