The indoor climate in elementary school and daycare centers has been a focus of attention for years. Following the maintenance specifications for Offices delivered in 2015, it was determined that there is also a need for a similar specifications document for maintenance in schools and daycare centers.
Despite all the attention, the GGD and Binnenklimaat Nederland found that a lot still goes wrong with ventilation. This has to do with the design and maintenance of the systems. One of the most pressing problems is that filters are not replaced often enough. The Technology Cluster, a consortium of school ventilation system suppliers, a filter supplier, a maintenance company and a nursery, decided to tackle this. The parties asked TNO to provide knowledge for this purpose.
The Technology Cluster led to an assurance system for the maintenance of ventilation and air handling systems. To this end, a maintenance chart for the maintenance of the entire life cycle of the system and a quick scan have been developed. This allows periodic inspections, for example every five years, of the indoor climate and the state of maintenance of the air treatment by a consulting firm. An update of this document was made in 2020.
