New Eurovent publication Air curtains
16 April 2025Eurovent, the European trade association for indoor climate and refrigeration technologies, recently published Recommendation 16/5, entitled "Air Curtain Units - Technical Overview". This technical guideline provides an in-depth insight into the operation of air curtains and highlights the importance of these systems in reducing energy loss through building openings. By comparing situations with and without air curtains, the document illustrates how these installations contribute to energy efficiency and comfort in buildings. For example, air curtains can save energy in both summer and winter.
The recommendation is largely based on the Dutch standard ISSO 110 and was developed in cooperation with the TNO testing laboratory. Michael Hims, chairman of the Eurovent Product Group 'Air Curtains and Fan Heaters', emphasised that this guideline is designed to provide manufacturers, designers and end-users with standardised methods and formulae for selecting and assessing air curtains in practical situations. The aim is to harmonise and optimise the application of air curtains across Europe.
Recommendation 16/5 is available for free download from the official Eurovent website and is a valuable resource for professionals striving to improve energy performance and indoor air quality in buildings.
