Highly successful opening Vakcentrum Binnenklimaattechniek in Dordrecht

On Friday 25 August, technical training provider IW Zuid-Holland and Binnenklimaat Nederland opened the Vakcentrum Binnenklimaattechniek for residential construction. At the Vakcentrum in Dordrecht, technicians are presented with various innovative learning opportunities to make it as the climate engineer of the future.

Vice president Indoor Climate Netherlands Dorien Terpstra: "There is a huge demand for people who will soon be able to install ventilation technology, but also maintain it. This location is also available to the schools around us, and in ventilation technology everyone is welcome. That makes this location relevant for people just coming out of school, but also for lateral entrants."

In 2020, the very first Vakcentrum Binnenklimaattechniek was opened in-house at IW-Midden at the Amersfoort location, followed in 2022 by the practical centre for utilities at ROVC Technische Opleidingen in Ede, and now, in collaboration with IW Zuid-Holland, there is the practical location in Dordrecht. Over the past year and a half, Binnenklimaat Nederland, IW Zuid-Holland and various partners, including Itho Daalderop, Zehnder, DUCO, Groupe Athlantic, Panflex and VASCO have worked hard on an innovative practical in the field of air treatment and distribution. The practical offers various and complete innovative (learning) opportunities to train the climate technology mechanic of the future.

Healthy ventilation starts with the professional

In houses and buildings that are increasingly well insulated, good ventilation is a must. Installing, adjusting, maintaining and replacing ventilation systems is skilled work that should be carried out by a well-trained specialist. The Trade Centre Binnenklimaattechniek trains these people. In cooperation with the industry, theoretical knowledge is directly linked to practical activities. Students learn to work with systems and components provided by a number of member companies of the Dutch Indoor Climate Association.

More ventilation specialists needed

There is still an urgent need for new mechanics. In addition, there needs to be more focus on retraining experienced mechanics. The practical training at the Vakcentrum Binnenklimaattechniek meets both needs. At the practical centre in Dordrecht, students with a technical background will soon be able to progress and there will also be opportunities for lateral entrants to start work. The parties involved hope that the practical implementation of the third Vakcentrum Binnenklimaattechniek will make more young people enthusiastic about ventilation technology.
