Contamination Probability Indicator
The calculation tool Aerosol Contamination Probability Indicator calculates the impact of ventilation rates on the probability of contamination in indoor spaces, such as offices, schools, restaurants, nursing homes, and shops. The tool assumes that all other applicable measures against the coronavirus and/or other virus variants in effect at that time, as recommended by the national government, are being followed. The indicator is based on the Wells-Riley model. This model assumes that when sharing a space with one infectious person, the virus spreads evenly throughout the room via exhalation and is diluted evenly through ventilation. The purpose of the tool is to provide actionable guidance to reduce the risk of infection. Additionally, the calculation tool can contribute to public discussions about the role and importance of ventilation in the transmission of infectious diseases in indoor spaces. The tool was developed during the COVID-19 period to offer clear and accessible insights.
